Italian Wine Selections di Michele Scamacca -
Col Del Mondo was born from the will of three vintners who have set themselves the goal of enhancing the wines of Abruzzo hills improving the dissemination and image.
But alongside this passion for Abruzzo wine history continued the commitment that has brought business for several years to verify the characteristics of the soils and strains of Montepulciano wine by separate small lots and, from the vintage 2001, with wine the purpose of placing on the market their product. The wine cellar and aging was recently expanded and renovated and is shared with the existing structure devoted solely to wine making.
The territory in which the company is situated has a succession of typical hillsides degrading from Apennines to Adriatic sea. The Apennine chain, with its highest relief and often snowy Gran Sasso and Maiella, seems an amphitheater that close our eyes to the west, east and the harmonious development of the hills reach the sea.
The soils are very uneven, as the sides and of training age. Frequently we meet marne clayey, often limestone, or loose soil and rich in skeleton, especially on the top of the hills.
And this is the case of the highest hill called "Colle del Mondo" where there is a soil rich in stone moraine that gives life to an old strain of Montepulciano, with small and tasty cluster.
